During late October/ early November i was scouted by Dinefwr Park, National Trust to create a bespoke commissioned wallpaper based on Newton House, its beauty, story and heritage. The application for this wallpaper was woodblock print as they had found a hand carved woodblock piece, hidden underneath the floor boards when renovating one of the rooms. This special woodblock is one of the key influences for this project and is the symbol for the "Archeology of Home" exhibition.
The wallpaper is 5 metres long and includes a total of 84 individual prints. The woodblock is approximately 17.6cm squared and is hand carved by myself out of Japanese Magnolia wood and hand printed also by myself.
This wallpaper, woodblock and video will be available to visit for free at Dinefwr from February 2024 until February 2025.
I felt very inspired by the beautiful wallpaper fragments that are on show in the 'Archeology of Home' exhibition archives. To start getting motifs together i painted, sketched objects from in and around the house in my sketchbook.
The National Trust kindly created a video interview of myself talking about this commission, what inspired the design and a demonstration of the processes used throughout the making of the final wallpaper.
Video was shot by the very talented Siôn Marshall-Waters

The wallpaper is now displayed next to my hand carved woodblock and the woodblock piece that was discovered at Newton House during the time that they were renovating the room. This room believed to be Lord Dinefwr's bed chamber and is now the room that hosts the 'Archeology of Home' exhibition.
